The ground around here
What the dirt does in this part of the county
Arnold’s defining feature, from a ground-work point of view, is water. The city sits at a river confluence and a substantial part of it is in or near the Meramec floodplain — an area with a long, documented history of flooding and of property buy-outs following it. Even well away from the mapped floodplain, that low, flat river-bottom ground drains slowly.
The rest of the city climbs out of the bottoms onto the bluffs, so a great many Arnold properties have both: a flat, slow-draining section and a slope feeding water into it. That combination is the classic drainage call. Water arrives faster than the low ground can take it away, and it ends up against whatever is standing in the low ground.
What gets asked for
The jobs this area tends to need
Around Arnold the list skews towards water: regrading to pull water off a foundation, swales and rock drainage runs, driveways that wash, and pads built high enough and drained well enough to stay dry. Demolition and haul-away come up on the older housing stock.
That describes the ground and the housing stock here, not a list of jobs completed in this town. The work we can show you is on the gallery, and what customers say about it is on the why us page.
