What Hardscaping Involves

We place rock and gravel, build retaining and boulder walls, rebuild banks, lay rip-rap and build gravel drives.

Every wall gets a solid base and drainage behind it, and every gravel drive gets a firm, well-drained base.

How It Works

STEP 01

Assess Drainage

We check where the water comes from and where it can go.

STEP 02

Cut and Shape the Ground

We cut banks back to an angle that holds, and dig and compact the base.

STEP 03

Set the Stone

We place rip-rap, boulders, wall block or gravel, with drainage behind anything that holds back soil.

STEP 04

Stabilize and Seed

We grade and seed exposed ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hardscaping the same as landscaping?
They overlap. Hardscaping is the stone, rock, gravel and walls. Landscaping is the plants. We do the hardscaping.
Why does drainage matter for hardscaping?
Water behind a wall pushes it over, and water across a gravel drive washes it out. We plan the drainage first.
Can you build a retaining wall on a steep slope?
Sometimes. Tall walls may need an engineer’s design.
Do you do patios and pavers?
We prep patio sites with excavation, base and drainage. We also do rock, gravel, walls and gravel drives.
